Unit 4501
Category: layer dug in 1999
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: const. debris/fill
Data Category Information: Description: 60's
Dimensions: 0.80 N-S by o.68 by ?
Discussion: (4501) was a mixed deposit - clayey silt, with substantial , small to lge. irregular 'lensing' of plaster frags. Initially, I thought this was wall collapse, assoc. with F.482 ( to the N.), or a wall above F.482 - part of the same event as (4499). However, there were thin (2-5mm approx,) layers visible within (4501). These layers were not in synch. with (4500) to the W. (floor layers). Perhaps (4501) is a 'demolition' dump, contemporary with (4499), including floor and/or roof deposits??
NB. The discrepancy in levels at eastern limits of (4500) and (4501) above - i.e. level 2 (4501) is lower than level 3 (4500), represents a digging error. The stratigraphy is correct.
