Dimensions: 0.38m (N-S) x 0.27m (E-W) x 0.10m deep 

Discussion: Dark fill of what was originally thought to be a small post-hole against the east wall towards the south of Space 173. Excavation revealed only a shallow deposit, though clearly in a cut. As the deposit had not apparently been seen at a higher level it must be assumed that the fill was of a shallower feature such as a basin. 

Recognition: Dark fill in area of floor deposits 

Definition: Clear, bounded by contrasting materials 

Execution: Trowel from edges 

Condition: Slightly moist but firm 

Consistency: Firm 

Colour: Mottled pale grey and pale brown 

Texture: Silty clay 

Bedding: Massive 

Inclusions: <5% charcoal flecks 

Post-depositional Features: Occasional root and insect disturbance 

Basal Boundary: Clear, smooth, anthropic
