Unit description: The only bone recovered from this unit was the material from flotation sample #2, 4mm, 100% sorted. This produced a small amount of bone dominated by unidentifiable and long bone fragments from sheep sized animals. Very few bones of larger mammals and none of fish or bird were found in this unit. The fauna from this unit seems to display a variety of taphonomic attributes possibly suggesting that it derived from a number of activities or locations. Although most of the bone is well fragmented, one piece of rib and one humerus shaft have survived to a length of 9 and 7 cm repectively. Most of the bone has been burnt with some only to a low temperatures and others have been heated to a high enough temperature for a long enough period of time to have become completely calcined. Additionally there seems to be a great deal of variability in terms of how weathered the bones are. Some display very minimal weathering whilst others appear to have been exposed for considerably longer periods. Evidence of disturbance by dogs is shown by the presence of significant quantities of digested bone. Overall, the unit seems to contain a mixture of material from lime burning as well as other types of activities.
