Category: Layer dug in 2002
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Collaspe/Wall,Floor
Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: general; Material: mix (dark grey&white); Deposition: composite (floors/bedding/plaster/packing/occupation)
Discussion: layer of white plastr below bricky fill 5393. The surface is undulating in level, particular dipping down towards the face of wall F827 - a possible cavity associated with oven to the W? 5396 is also discontinuous and occationally seems to be composed of discreet 'slabs' of plaster, laying rather unevenly, rather than a uniform floorsurface. The numerous root and animal holes don't help things!
On removal appeared to be a mix of collapse an scrappy (re)surfaces. 5396 refers to that material removed until a level surface was reached, except by oven in nw where a discrete floor was removed revealing another beneath. In the SW, 5396 came down on to a mix of plaster and orange brick make up apparently underlying the level surface to the N. I.n most of the area a more level, discontinuous plaster floor or levelled bricky surface was reached.
