15/08/99 Platform/floor first exposed in NE corner and so it was followed on the edges to see how far it extends along wall so this unit is the 3-5 cm of soil lying directly on this plastered surface. Very nice lip/edge on western side. Deposits removed throughout the center of the space to a level that is estimated to be several cm above platform filling most of the space, this level being determined by exposed platform edges exposed around the periphery of the space and change in accumulated deposits (more ashy and organic debris filled.).
Near center of space 27cm from western platform edge sticking up through deposits is Mudbrick, appears burnt on one side.
Fire installation (unit 6145) was removed separately, the deposits of 6178 continue under this.

Recognition: White platform surface easily recognized, so 3-5cm (on top) then taken as this unit.

Definition: Plaster surface extends from NE corner at least to grave cut in south, and to just a 3 cm short of west section wall.

Execution: Trowel, mira trowel.

Condition: Dry - slightly - barely moist/greasy.

Consistency: almost firm, slightly sticky, slightly mod. plastic.

Colour: 7.5 YR / 5/3

Bedding: compound layered.

Inclusions: brick, clay, plaster ~5%, voids, white xxxplants ~5%, charcoal ~5%, lots of turnips.

Unit description: Material only came from the dry sieve, no flotation. Most of the identifiables are human bones and one distal humerus epiphysis is probably from a wolf given its very large size and young age. NR 2003: Found several bags of flotation, including three all labeled as sample 1. i will keep this separate in case they are supposed to be something else. Sample 1 (flot 3444) >4mm flotation 100% sorted, recorded completely. This is a smallish sample of smallish but not uniformly tiny pieces, mostly sheep-size. Surface condition is quite variable. There is a piece of human bone. Looks like fill. Sample 1 (flot 3518) >4mm flotation 100% sorted, recorded completely. it is generally similar to the previous sample 1, with perhaps somewhat better surface condition on average and no human bone. There is some burning and digestion. Looks like fill. Sample 1 (flot 3458) >4mm flotation 100% sorted, recorded completely. it is similar to the other two samples 1, but smaller. Sample 15 >4mm flotation 100% sorted, recorded as diagnostics and flot frags. This is a much larger sample, fairly similar but with more burning and more diagnostics, some in quite large pieces. Overall, this still looks basically like fill. Last number = 99
