Unit 7761
Category: layer dug in 2003
Area: Trench I
Interpretive Categories: Room fill
Data Category Information: none
Dimensions: 0,92m x 0,65m 0,41m
Discussion: Distinguished from 7738 as it was thought to fill an entrance. After excavation it appears that this context filled a possible corner niche (????) that may have been cut into wall F736. Plaster rendering defines the niche only partially.
This corner continues to be confusing, particularly as too many walls exist/were robbed here and the space has been severely disturbed by animal activity.
The fill defined by the render was sampled as this feature may represent a bin or similar.
Recognition: Probably same as 7738 but extended back into what was supposed to be a mudbrick wall
Execution: Trowel and hand shovel
Condition: Very hot and dry
Consistency: Moderately compact to soft
Colour: 10YR 4/2 dark greyish brown
Texture: Silty clay
Bedding: Massive
Inclusions: Pot, bone, stone and obsidian
Post-depositional Features: Very severe animal and insect disturbance
Basal Boundary: Edge to S unclear due to bioturbation. Peels off onto 7754 to NW. Appears to fill a corner 'niche' with edges partially defined by plaster (not fine). Base within niche defined by slightly firmer material.
