Discussion: This layer is an oven floor surface virtually identical to unit 8011 in colour, texture and consistency. Includes a piece of worked obsidian. 

 

Recognition: Because its obvious 

Definition: Sharp contrast in colour and texture with surrounding deposits. 

Execution: Trowelled in plan 

Consistency: Hard and compact 

Colour: Dark grey 

Texture: Loam 

Bedding: Massive 

Inclusions: Gravel <4cm <5% 

Post-depositional Features:  

Basal Boundary: Lies over another similar compacted floor surface, very sharp boundary in some areas - in others boundary is so diffuse it can be described as arbitrary
