Unit 8672
Category: layer dug in 2003
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: block of the opening
Data Category Information: none
Dimensions: N-S - 1 m; E-W - 0.28 m
Discussion: This unit comprises the "block" of the opening in F. 633, i. e. to the E of it. There is a mudbrick on top, 67 x 27 cm, that finished the "block". The brick is 5.5 cm thick.
Underneath there was a packing consisting of thin mudbricks and thin layers of mortar inbetween. It seems that the bricks and the mortar were layered when they were still wet so they were stuck together and now it is very difficult to separate them. Underneath there is a brick made of yellowish sandy clay. This brick lies on top of surface covered with salts - its level is 1011.41 (N) - 1036 (S).
After we removed the "block", we reached the black layer (see unit 8665) - its level is 1011. 29 (N) - 1011.37 (S), which most probably is the original surface of the step at the opening (F. 633) at the time when it was blocked.
