Discussion: This Byzantine burial is extended W-E in a wood-lined pit. The cranium is fragmentary and broken and appears to have rolled past mortem to the right shoulder. The mandible and right temporal bonesare missing as well as both clavicles, the cervical vertebrae, and most of the bones from both hands. Since the hands appear to be disturbed by rodent activity, I assume these bones were taken or moved in this process, which may explain the absence of the other bones mentioned above. In situ age and sex estimation reveal an adult female, based upon dentition and degenerative joint disease, and general morphology of the cranium and pelvis. Wide sciatic notch, square pubis, small mastoids. A copper or bronze ring was found in the screen when the skeleton had been lifted. The long bones were fragmentary and dry and brittle. Preservation varied throughout. A copper ring fragment was found in the area of rodent disturbance.
