Dimensions: 85 x 90 x 1.5 (max.) cm. 

Discussion: Layer of ash sealed by later/final floor deposit; overlies another partially remnant floor surface, also probably associated with phase II of F.I.11.
Layer much thicker towards front / east end of feature Max.15mm; near back at west, north and south edges, features out to <5 mm; this is also where remnant of previous floor survives.
This deposit(1249) probably represents in situ fire/hearth ash residue left is, perhaps levelled off prior to re-surfacing of phase II Fire installation.

Consistency: Very firm 

Colour: 7.5YR 2.5/1 Black 

Texture: Slightly silty sand. 

Bedding: Massive 

Inclusions: Charred plant remains 2-5 % <0.5 cm. 

Post-depositional Features: Rootlets 2% 

Basal Boundary: Prominent, flat, very sharp <2mm, smooth.
