Description: Unit is 3 mubricks surrounded by mortar U. 20091 that forms the base of the foundation feature to wall extension F. 5038.
Discussion: Due to changes in mortar surrounding this brick layer, the brick and mortar (F. 7403) were identified as different events and as a possible foundation layer to the wall extension F. 5038. It appears as though the bricks are small (as opposed to the long mudbricks composing the rest of the walls) and were laid on top of the wooden threshold (U. 19804). The bricks may have been cut into small rectuangular shapes in order to fit over the thin threshold as possible protection, or to seal and prepare the area for the wall extension with much larger bricks.
