Discussion: This layer is a heterogeneous natural deposit covering almost the entire extent of the southern half of the trench. It contained a mixture of artifacts from many periods. Removing it revealed u. 20224 to be a construction/moulding for a basin, and revealed more of the mud-brick deposits that seem to predate the Roman/Hellenistic wall f. 3951 we are still coping with temporally.

Colour: mostly greyish brown, with some darker and redder laminations 

Texture: silty clay loam 

Bedding: compound 

Inclusions: pottery, bone, groundstone, obsidian 

Post-depositional Features: animal burrows, sinking of datum 

Basal Boundary: orange deposit of building material toward west
