Unit 20230
Category: Cut dug in 2012
Area: TPC
Interpretive Categories: pit cut,pit cut boundaries of natural deposit
Data Category Information: Description: pit
Dimensions: 1.50 m x 0.78 m x 0.03 m
Discussion: This cut represents the extent of pit f. 3954, an extremely shallow pit most identifiable where it cuts into the mud-brick deposit u. 20224 to the south. The basal boundary is defined by a soil change to a mottled orange clay loam and a deposit of extremely dark soil. It is possible this cut is not for a pit, but instead is a shallow basin-like repository for u. 20227, which could be a natural fill (or blowover from u. 20225, but the way it cuts into u. 20224 seems to belie that hypothesis.
Recognition: identified by removal of fill u. 20227
Definition: defined by extent of fill u. 20227
Execution: trowel
Condition: cool, shaded, so many mating flies
Shape: ovular
Sides: sharp to south, less clear to north and west
Base Break: sharp
Base: flat- determined by soil change
Orientation: N/A
