Unit 20416
Category: Layer dug in 2012
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: mortar
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: wall/blocking; Material: mortar; Deposition: homogeneous
Dimensions: 0,27m NS x 0,86m EW (exposed part) x 0,31m deep
Discussion: Mortar in southern wall F.3624 building 108. 2 layers of mortar. Only the northern half of the wall excavated since it bonded to wall F.3623.
Further excavation in 2013 by a. klimowicz:
Mortar U.20416 was used as a joining material within the wall F.3624. The depth of the unit varied (2-6cm) depending on desirable elevation/level involved with maintaining horizontal line of the subsequent courses of bricks.
- Further excavation in 2015 by A. Klimowicz:
In course of research in 2015 it was possible to record more of the mortar U.20416 considered as the joining material within the wall F.3624. The introduced procedure related with extending the limit of research area allowed to uncover the feature along 1m toward west and evidenced its height (0,60m). The depth of the unit varied (2-6cm) depending on desirable elevation/level involved with maintaining horizontal line of the subsequent courses of bricks.
However, it appeared that the mortar play additional role within the mentioned mud-brick construction. On the bottom of the foundation trench (F.7851) performed before erecting the wall there was extended layer of mortar (5cm thick) evidenced. The latter action might have been performed to stabilize the structure and strengthen its foot.
There had been 1 additional sample collected due to changed botanical protocol (S3). In the course of the excavation the volume of executed deposit also increased (unsieved: 107 L) up to total amount of 157,52 L.

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
