Unit 23209
Category: Layer dug in 2017
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Pit fill
Data Category Information: Location: feature; Description: bin; Deposition: homogeneous
Description: This is the one and only fill of Pit F.8042. It contained a few animal bone and some flecks of charcoal. It was of brown-grey clay, friable and easy to excavate. It was found under platform F.8457, in the NE-E of Building 17.
Discussion: Pit-fill U 23209 was homogenous in general and contained a few animal bone and flecks of charcoal. It was partially lost in the North of Pit F.8042, because of the contruction of Platform U23207 and Oven F.8038. This pit-fill might have been a result of leveling the area beneath for the construction of Platform U.23207, the south-eastern part of which was directly placed on top of this fill.
Consistency: Friable
Colour: Brown grey
Texture: Clay
Bedding: Massive
Inclusions: Flecks of charcoal
Post-depositional Features: In the North: partial covering by Platform U.23207; truncation by Oven's F.8038 base. In the SW: possible truncation for a small post hole
Basal Boundary: Levelled, very sharp, and distinct; smooth, flat surface surface
