Unit 23610
Category: Layer dug in 2017
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: infill of a burial pit
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: burial; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: The sediment 23610 was recognized as an in-fill sealing the cut 23611 situated in the North, North-Western part of the Sp.531. The recognition of the feature, however, was not so simple. The identification was based mostly on the Infill U.23610, especially on the convex form of a densely packed sediment and its darker hue that seemed to be more moisture. All of the presented above factors allowed assigning it as a potential pit. The fill was composed of the same material as surrounded leveling deposit 32761 recognized allover the Sp.531. The only exception was more fragmented components and mentioned moisture caused probably by the high percentage of clay elements. In the course of the further excavation the sediment appeared to be the burial fill underneath whom there had been skeleton U.23617 revealed. Within the infill there were number of animal bones recorded which was caused by the fact that the cut truncated underlying midden-like sediments with abundance of the inclusions that were again backfilled as a sealing deposit.
