Unit 31110
Category: Layer dug in 2013
Area: Trench 5
Interpretive Categories: mudbrick buttress
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: As a brick layer, this unit was clearly distinguishable from the surrounding mortar and plaster. The intention of the whole feature is unclear; it is a massive buttress that has been supporting an upper floor or the walls.
Between the brick and the plaster there were several small inclusions of phytoliths as well as a few bigger ones on the mortar and one that showed a pattern that did not seem to be natural.
The outlines of the bricks are mosly unclear; it is difficult to distinguish them from each other.
It is clearly connected to the wall right east of it (f2424). This is shown to be continuous mortar and brick layers as well as a phytolith layer overlapping both features.
The bottom levels were taken a the suspected boundary between the buttresses.
U31111 is included in the volume.
