Unit 31237
Category: Layer dug in 2013
Area: Trench 5
Interpretive Categories: burned clay in fire installation
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: The unit 31237 consists of what seems to be burned clay. The layer was very easy to remove, as it was of clearly different consistency and texture than the other layers around it. While exposing U.31237, it became clear that it does not connect to the wall on the eastern side. On the western side, an almost white, curved installation appeared which turned our to be ca.3cm high, seperating the layer from the western part of U.31240. Beneath unit 31237 there was a dark layer, that in a section I cut later turned out to be the burned surface of 31240. The southern boundary was the plaster 31244.
All volume of 31237 was collected for sampling.
