Unit 32649
Category: Layer dug in 2017
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Base+ superstructure of hearth
Data Category Information: Location: feature; Description: hearth; Material: baked; Deposition: single
Discussion: Earliest phase of the hearth F8170 exposed after remove the U32642. We include in the same unit the remains of the base + make-up and rim.
The base was dark brown with evident traces of burn surface. The make-up was 0.03 cm thick, orange and quite compact. The rim had the same composition as the oven superstructure, so was light orange made with salt and silt, and also were visible remains of white plaster (we took samples of everything). This rim had kind of oval shape around 0.12 cm thick and was clearly build abutting the oven’s superstructure. Anyway we think that both features were built at the same moment, because both were places on the same makeup/ preparation layer U32654.
Consistency: Compact
Colour: Brown (base) orange (make up). The rim was light orange
Texture: Silt and clay the same average each. For the rim the composition had sand,
Bedding: Massive
Inclusions: Flecks of charcoal, and natural small stones.
Post-depositional Features: Salts, levelling
Basal Boundary: Very sharp
