Unit 32771
Category: Layer dug in 2017
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Infill of a scoop
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: scoop; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: Fill was a very light grey, ashy soil with occasional small charcoal flecks and rare small orange clay chunks, with some small, flat chunks of white plaster too. The edges of the cut were very distinct from the surrounding matrix. The western part was very compact while the eastern part was more loose due to the crack (from being dried out) running through it from the northern midpoint obliquely to the southeastern part. After about 2-3 cm the firm ashy deposit turned into more of a compact and crumbly fill with less ash and more clay and plaster chunks, especially in the southwestern 2/3, while the northeastern 1/3 remained the same ashy deposit but with more plaster. The fill was virtually sterile in terms of material culture.
Consistency: Compact, but more firm/loose in eastern part due to crack running though the fill
Colour: Light grey
Texture: 60% ash, 20% sand, 20% clay
Bedding: Massive
Inclusions: 10% charcoal flecks, 10% mid-orange clay small chunks, 10% white plaster small chunks and some larger flat laminations
Post-depositional Features: Crack running from north to southeast part of fill. Truncated in northeast portion by later cut
Basal Boundary: Anthropogenic, abrupt, distinct, smooth, flat, smooth
