Data Category Information: Description: hearth

Dimensions: 0.4m e-w x 0.16m n-s x 0.03m

Discussion: 5011 was the truncated cut for oven 5010 in the northern end of the 'dirty' south western quadrant of building 23/ space 178. It was truncated by the deep sounding to the north and cut 5008 to the south but appears to have been roghly circular and fairly shallow, holding only1 or possible 2 oven bases during its use-life. It cuts through 'dirty' floor layers on all the sides that are visible (5084).

Shape: Roughly circular-but difficult to tell because of truncation

Sides: Steep to the west (almost vertical) more gradual to the east (~45 degree)

Base Break: A sharp (~100 degree) base break of slope to the west, curling gently into the base to the east

Base: Smooth and sloping gently towards the centre of the cut

Orientation: No clear orientation
