Unit 7913
Category: layer dug in 2004
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: room fill
Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: We have fast tracked this room fill and have been digging it for about 5 days. The unit stretches to all four corners of the room, into which a burial was cut (unit 7917).
A large piece of obsidian was found at 1051E 1170.5N.
The objective of this unit is to find the floor level and outline any features within the four plastered walls. So far, the finds mainly consist of large and small, disarticulated animal bone, clay ball fragments, wall fall (some of which is plastered), plaster pieces, pieces of burnt mud brick, black ceramics and charcoal. The unit has been heavily disturbed by rodent activity. The matrix is heterogeneous with all sorts of finds mixed up and tumbled walls. We have been following plaster lines to outline the underlying units/features. We have found several pieces of plaster lying in the mix and have dug around them and found them not attached to anything; we've been advised to remove these pieces.
After several days of digging the fill under one number, UK got nervous about the possibility of features and decided to arbitrarily change unit numbers for certain plaster collapses - 7923, 7924, 7925.
The heights are the highest and lowest known but may extend beyond 7913

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
