Unit 10278
Category: layer dug in 2005
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: foundation roman
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: foundation cut; Deposition: homogeneous
Dimensions: 12.8m NW-SE x 1.1m x 0.8m deep
Discussion: Roman bulding foundation. Made of clay battered into cut, possibly with water, to obtain a very firm consistency.
At the southernmost end it seemed to have been made in two different moments since there was a clear straight breaking line, longitudinely through middle.
The clay was clearly taken from an area with Neolithic inhabitation since it's very mixed and contains large quantities of neolithic material. Very few Roman sherds.
The bottom bit was made of premade clay bricks.
