Unit 10491
Category: layer dug in 2004
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Make up layer
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: floor (packing only); Material: pise-like; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: Light greyish brown silt packing. Initial layer prior to laying of plaster surface. Identical to (10490) and (10492) relating to F1502 and F1503 respectively. Very high organic content, mainly chaff but also roots and grasses?
Appears to be part of single phase of laying down of this packing/mortar material over the whole of the two platforms and bench, the same material, predominantly the same thickness all over, covering the initial sandy clay-like make up below. Then the whole area has been plastered with (10474) (10486) (10489) and (10484).
Recognition: Seen after the removal of plaster (10474)
Definition: Defined by platform F1501
Execution: Leaf and brush
Condition: Dry
Consistency: Loose
Colour: Light greyish bown
Texture: Silt
Bedding: Massive
