Unit 10988
Category: layer dug in 2005
Area: TP
Interpretive Categories: floor
Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: general; Material: dark grey clay; Deposition: composite (floors/bedding/plaster/packing/occupation); Basal Spit: unpainted
Discussion: This is a layer of a Roman floor situated in N part of an extension.
Other parts of the same floor were excavated as units 11532 (in 2004 season) and as unit 11555 in western extension (2005).
Unit 11532 which was between units 11555 and 10988 was excavated in season 2004 in order to put up a tent over the trench.
The floor 10988 was very compact but its basal boundary was well distinguishable as the floor in its entire heights has easily been peeled off.
On the surface of the floor a small pit of a regular oval shape was discovered and excavated in season 2004. Its infill was recorded as unit 10999 and cut as 10997 but is possible that this small was created because of keeping some heavy item in this place on the floor ( feature 1187).
There has been also another unit recorded on the surface of the floor as unit 10992- possibly another fragment of floor of a kind of construction placed on it.
