Unit 12138
Category: Layer dug in 2005
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: floor and make-up
Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: general; Material: mix (dark grey&white); Deposition: composite (floors/bedding/plaster/packing/occupation)
Discussion: Layers include mud brick make up and 2-3 layers of surface on top. Probably extended across byzantine trench to the south. Was prob built up in the north against vertical plaster edge of 'platform' which was no longer present but which would have covered several layers of earlier floor. Could be contemporary w/ floor of corresponding height on other side of building, however, as it was built up several cm in 1 layer of make-up. Surface was nearly identical to that directly beneath it (a 'dirty floor'). Is nearly perfectly flat. Triangular bit in SW corner may be continuous w/ ledge visible on W wall. Is truncated by pit 12136/12137 (not excavated) to the west and pit surrounding plaster piller (feat: 2132 ) and hence prob predates them.
Rough volume calculated. AKT 25 Jul 2009
Recognition: layers clearly identifiable in profile, easily lifts off lower layer
Definition: cut on almost every side except north, where it abuts vertical plaster, which undercuts it a bit.
Condition: hot
Consistency: compact
Colour: mid orangey brown (mud brick color)
Texture: clay/sandy
Bedding: layered: thick layer of mud brick, 2-3 thin layers of plastery/brownish surface
Inclusions:
Post-depositional Features:
Basal Boundary: clear: similar make-up/floor layer, flat.
