Unit 13741
Category: Cut dug in 2006
Area: Trench 5
Interpretive Categories: pit cut, robber pit cut
Data Category Information: Description: pit
Dimensions: 2.3m+ E-W x 1.5m N-S x 0.25m deep
Discussion: cut of disturbance filled by 13742, cutting 13750.
Probably the same as 13730 but given distinct number as it became clear that a semi-disturbed grave lay beneath. Also some human bones came from this disturbance.
Either this Byzantine disturbance (pit cut) occured fairly quickly after the burial was inferred and slumping of body (removal of skull) may be linked to such a disturbance event, hence this is why the body is still mainly articulated (therefore fleshed). Alternatively the disturbance cut truncated the skull and this was accidental. As a matter of respect the skull was places back within distrubed fill (13742) and the rest of the body remained undisturbed as a mark for respect.
Recognition: Disturbed area
Definition: defines as spatially distinct zone of disturbance separate fom 13730 immediately above; arbitrary perhaps but done in order to keep spatial control for disturbed skeleton
Execution: trowel
