Unit 17929
Category: Layer dug in 2008
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: primary wall plaster
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: wall/blocking; Material: plaster; Deposition: layered (wall plaster); Basal Spit: unpainted
Discussion: Layered plaster south facing wall F.1661. Patchy and flakey though upper portion flakey due to proximity to surface of mound and lower through excavation of overlying lenses (ie. Difficult to remove layer at a time).
As with all the walls the primary plaster seems to be a blocky bedding to create an even surface for subsequent applications of plaster render.
A small fragment of post scar riddge survives with a basal packing of plaster mortar (lumpy and blocky) with repeated plaster applications.
The wall elevation (brick face) is irregular as would be expected.
