Unit 20361
Category: Cut dug in 2012
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: post cut (partition wall)
Data Category Information: Description: posthole
Dimensions: NS-0.25m, EW-0.1m, depth-0.16m
Discussion: This cut is one in a continuous and evenly spaced series of 6 other post hole cuts running roughly N-S. Like the others, the cut was surrounded/lined by a thin layer of light coloured clay (possibly a kind of preparation or securing fill for the post) and contained the remnants of a plaster surface at the bottom of the cut.
It contained a compact fill, but no large charcoal pieces seen in the other 6 postholes.
The cut was roughly oval in shape with pretty vertical sides that slope in at less than 1 cm. It is about the same size as the other 6 postholes (although larger than a few of them) and similar rough shape indicating further a similar purpose.
Recognition: post cut (partition wall) /clear
Definition: clear
Execution: trowel
Condition: hot
Shape: ovoid
Sides: sharp, very little slope (less than 1cm)
Base Break: rounded edges, otherwise sharp
Base: flat
Orientation: N-S
