Unit 20455
Category: Layer dug in 2012
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: midden arbitrary layer
Data Category Information: Location: in abandoned building; Deposition: finely bedded
Dimensions: 2,8m NS x 2,4m EW x 0,15m thick
Discussion: Arbitrary layer, similar to unit 20449, in the midden, fills the space below building 108. The layer was visible in the section on the upper part of the midden, but was likely disturbed by the cut and singular infill event, the layer contained more or less fragmented (but still a lot of) animal bones, was more greyish and the arbitrary layer was partly layered. The abundance of stone fragments and lumps of brown and grey clay were noted, as well as layers of ash and charcoal.
Excavated as an arbitrary 0.15 m thick spit layer (Z1012.70-1012.55).
Recognition: Arbitrary layer of midden different colour than around.
Definition: Up to a wall in N, up to a section in W, clear in S and E.
Execution: trowel
Condition: dry and hot
Consistency: soft and friable
Colour: dark grey, blackish, with yellow clay inclusions
Texture: Silty loam and clay
Bedding: massive with layerd parts sloping sligthtly towards the N and E, midden: black, grey and orange layers about 5 thick
