Unit 20979
Category: Layer dug in 2013
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Superstructure hearth
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: raised area (platform); Material: re-used superstructure; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: This unit was the make up for platform F.7117. This make up was cut (as well as the plaster in platform, u.20949) in order to make a hearth. In this it could also be seen as part of the hearth. It was part of the make up used also for firing activities; this was clearly seen when excavating the overlying hearth (F.3692), and underlying (F.7135). This make was fine, but hard to distinguish when it ended, because it was heavily affected, especially in its centre, by the fire. Its placing should perhaps be connected with the placement of the hearth as well. This is indicated by the construction of this make up. It was built in respect to F.7124 (another hearth closeby) which together made the base for the platform in this part (see feature discussion).
