Unit 21110
Category: Layer dug in 2014
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Room infill (eroded)
Data Category Information: Location: between walls; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: This unit was defined when starting this year's excavation; it was first seen as the continuation of the removal of the infill/layer 20202 in space 40. It is constituted of an elevated area south of space 39. When removing with pick axe it became clear it filled a separate space, 502. Heterogenous, gravelly soil constituted the layer. The sieving yielded few finds, considering the volume. It is mostly made of silt with inclusions of construction material, mainly brick fragments.
It seems to be similar to underlying unit 21123. It was however badly eroded the first 5-10 cm, since it has been exposed to trampling since at least 2012, and contained rough construction debris which seems not to be the case for 21123.
Consistency: Compact, but sometimes loose
Colour: Light brown
Texture: Silty loam
Bedding: Compound
Inclusions: Inclusions of construction debris such as brick fragments, plaster, clay
Post-depositional Features: Animal burrowing, trampling from it being exposed since at least 2012
Basal Boundary: Gradual but clear

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
