Unit 21511
Category: Layer dug in 2014
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Midden-like infill
Data Category Information: Location: between walls; Deposition: heterogeneous
Description: Sloping to the east
Discussion: This unit was below U 21181 (grey infill). It was a unit which was layered. It consisted of a brick fragment-layer (thicker) and one or two thin ash layers and compact grey infill (also very thin). It was excavated with pickaxe. It was relatively find rich (in comparison with above units) in animal bones, also ground stone and obsidian were found. But considering the amount sieved, it was maybe not especially find rich.
In my opinion this group of layers represent a single infill event where a thick collapse of brick or construction debris mainly consisting of brick (clayey) was deposited in space 40, which by then was not an internal area but external. In the approximate same time some small deposits were thrown in over this brick layer. Below it a similar group of infill/infill event is visible (U21518).
Amongst the dry sieve finds was a human tooth pendant - the second of its kind (?) at Catal. It was however a bit fragmented. The other was found in B.102 in unit 30567.
