Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: between walls; Material: re-used brick&mortar; Deposition: heterogeneous
Description: Packing layer loaded between S-wall of B.77 and Northern wall of sp.511,489; within sp.518 -originally an open space.
Discussion: The dense layer, comprised of crushed bricks and mortar was placed within Sp.518. It was restricted from North by the wall (F.7301) of B.77 and from the South by wall F.3679. The unit had been uncovered partially in 2012 and 2013 and then executed completely in 2014 after exploration of the wall F.3646 and F.3626.
Taking into consideration particular kinds of components and the thickness of the unit it seems that this deposit had a packing purpose and its accumulation was conducted intentionally. Consequently, the packing layer might have been related with activities aiming to stabilize the ground before erection of the wall [F.3646] – OR – according to a second scenario the deposit was loaded to prevent alternative collapse of one of the above mentioned walls. Therefore the packing comprised mainly of constructional material that was dumped deliberately all over the space. Mentioned context as well as the whole described sequence is problematic. The location of the layer between F.3679 and F.7301 allows to affiliate the deposit with Sp.518 and its unroofed (open) character.
