Unit 30120
Category: Layer dug in 2013
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: packing deposit
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: between walls; Material: re-used brick&mortar; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: The dense layer, comprised of crushed bricks and mortar, was placed within Sp.518. It was restricted to the North by the wall F.7301 of B. 77 and to the South by wall F.3679. The unit had been uncovered partially in 2012 and then exposed entirely after exploration of the wall 3646 in 2013.
Taking into consideration its particular kinds of components and the thickness of the unit it seems that this deposit had a packing purpose and its accumulation was conducted intentionally. Consequently, the packing layer must have been related to activities aiming to stabilize the ground before erection of the wall [F.3646]. Therefore the pack comprised mainly of constructional material that was dumped deliberately all over the space.
Mentioned context as well as the whole described sequence is problematic. The location of the layer between F.3679 and F.7301 allows us to affiliate the deposit with Sp.518. However, considering the fact that the layer was performed in order to build the wall (F.3646) related with the space 488, make confusion from recording and stratigraphical points of view. That is why unit 30120 was aligned to those two spaces.

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
