Description: make-up layer under the floors of B.77, Sp.337

Discussion: The layer assigned under the separate unit number 22068 must be regarded as the make-up placed directly on the top of uneven surface of the room-fill, that was deposited within the abandoned interior of the predecessor of B.77. In that circumstances the placing of the make-up aimed at establishing a flat surface, which would have been proper enough for setting the first plaster of floor. In that case the layer except for the surrounding walls should be considered as one of the earliest phases of the mentioned building. Worth noticing is the fact that the make-up respected the walls (e.g. F.3098, F.3099). Consequently, it was younger then mud-brick structures around.
The exploration of the unit was problematic due to long term of exposure (since 2008) and trampling effect. However, distinguishing the layer was not difficult owing to the fact that the deposit was subjected to the high temperature caused by the fire within the interior. For that reason execution of the deposit embraced whole, relatively homogeneous and burned layer.
Consequently, within space 336 of the B.77 located Eastward the same kind of layer was recorded as U.22084
