Category: Layer dug in 2014
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: fire spot
Data Category Information: Description: fire spots (non-structured); Deposition: heterogeneous
Description: fire spot in southern part of the Sp.336 under make-up layer 22084
Discussion: The fire spot U.22092 was recorded directly on the top surface of the room-fill (U.22080) that covered whole interior of the predecessor of B.77. It was revealed below the make-up layer (u.22084) in the southern part of the Sp. 336 (B.77). The location and context of the unit are significant regarding many issues. First is the placement within above mentioned segment of the (planned) house. Accordingly, the setting refers to well known tendency registered on the site involved with constructing main fire installations (ovens) in the southern part of the buildings. From stratigraphical point of view, fire spot laid partially on the infill (U.22075) of the foundation trench (F.7591) that was undoubtedly performed to set the walls F.3096/7301 of B.77. The same may be stated concerning several pits (F.7600, F.7601, F.7602), that were recorded in close proximity to the fire spot. The round and very shallow pits most plausibly served as pot spots to hold vessels in vertical position preventing their slumping. They as well as fire spot were clearly performed after erecting the walls (F.3096/7301) within the ditch (F.7591) and filling the cut with soil along the already created mud-brick structure. Taking into consideration all of the collected data one interpretation becomes more conceivable, that the activities nearby the fire spot occurred during the constructional phase of the B.77. The latter must have been taken part when the walls had been already erected (at least their first courses), however the make–up layer had not been placed yet all over the interior.
Additionally, traces of burned clay around the fire spot may indicate food preparation taking place in situ in the past.
