Unit 22265
Category: Layer dug in 2015
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Plaster floor
Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: general; Material: mix (dark grey&white); Deposition: composite (floors/bedding/plaster/packing/occupation)
Description: This is a plastered floor and its packing in the Western and central area of the Annex of Building 52, space 252.
Discussion: Under U22260, the floor in the annex was distinctively different in the West from the East. U22265 represents the Western part. The surface of this floor had been regularly plastered but it was extremely worn out, possibly because the western part of this room corresponds with the entrance path; i.e. the way in and out of the annex into the central-eastern Building 52, therefore it would have been more often rather than the eastern part of the annex. The packing of this floor seemed to be of marl, and this was diffused onto the floor below making the excavation in the particular space trickier.
Consistency: Friable
Colour: White and grey
Texture: Sand
Bedding: Parallel layers
Inclusions: low percentage of plaster aggregates
Post-depositional Features: Cracking and breaking; animal burrows disturbance
Basal Boundary: Constructional, abrupt, faint, irregular, slightly inclined towards the East and the South, uneven surface.
