Description: Oval-shaped cluster of glume wheat spikelets near NE corner of oven F. 7953 

Discussion: This unit represents a dense and nearly pure deposit of new type glume wheat spikelets near the oven F. 7953, sitting on the floor of the latest phase of occupation of B. 131 (u. 22642). It is the same kind of wheat that was found stored in sp. 556 (u. 22656). It was excavated by Amy Bogaard, collected in its totality for analysis by the archaeobotany lab. Finding this unit underneath room fill u. 22635 also resulted in an additional flotation sample being created for the room fill unit, as some grains were sticking to the underside of the rubble and clay loam peds that came up as this unit was excavated. The surprising and strange thing about this unit is that the wheat was found with evidence of intact chaff, which is the wheat's stored form rather than its processed form. It is curious therefore that this wheat was found so close to the oven. Reference the priority database for additional information.
