Unit 22653
Category: Layer dug in 2015
Area: North
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: post; Deposition: homogeneous
Description: This is a complete timber post along the E wall (F. 7712) of building 131. It consists of very delicate charcoal chunks in situ.
Discussion: The timber post standing ip against the E wall of Building 131 was very well preserved but very fragile. It was photographed in situ and measured (see above), then sampled in its entirety. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts to keep it intact, it did not stay together well during transfer to the sample box. It was named a priority unit, although the charcoal specialists were not on site this season; in their stead Carla Lancelotti examined the timber preliminarily. It is hoped that Eleni Asouti and/or Ceren Kabukcu will be able to study it in 2016. The timber was sitting directly on the makeup layer of platform F. 7952, not dug in past this point. We presume it was used for architectural stability in the building.
