Unit 22683
Category: Layer dug in 2015
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: platform surface plaster
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: floor (packing only); Material: plaster; Deposition: homogeneous; Basal Spit: unpainted
Discussion: This is a layer of plaster applied to the top of the platform F. 7952 along the eastern wall of B. 131. It is the plaster put on after the burial cuts F. 7961 and F. 7963, and it extended across the entire platform. It was excavated by trowel. Because the layers of plaster are difficult to differentiate, and because more layers preserve near the wall (where less erosion would have occurred), in some places more than one layer of plaster were removed at once. Below this plaster layer was a painted layer, though in some places we came straight down on makeup (possibly due to the impossibility of securely differentiating plaster layers, particularly toward the W end of the platform).
