Unit 2501
Category: cut dug in 1997
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: grave cut,soil staining
Data Category Information: Description: burial
Description: irregular / ovoid cut
Discussion: Small scoop cut into make-up layer against west wall as space 71 foundation, for apparent foundation burial of a neonate - one of 3 in a row there. The NW extension more shallow & filled with yellowish clay layer. The S edge more clear in the top of the fill & easy to follow down, but as the fill changed to be the same as the layer in was cut into & with the removal of delicate bones, especially skull, & large underlying stone which was pushed down into the layer, the base of the cut was difficult to define.
GML: Possibly that this is *not* a cut - see discussion on unit 2191
Execution: leaf, dental pick, brush
Condition: warm - hot, calm, dry
Shape: ovoid with extension (triangular) at upper north
Sides: vertical at top, sloping toward base
Base Break: difficult to define, seems to be bradual, curving
Base: uncertain, probably roughly that but slightly concave
Orientation: N-S
