Unit 2852
Category: layer dug in 1998
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: deliberate backfill
Data Category Information: Location: feature; Description: oven; Deposition: homogeneous
Dimensions: 0.75 X 0.60 m x 0.27 m thick
Discussion: Apparent deliberate backfill of oven, very sterile, virtually no inclusions, but filling oven completely to roof, where roof is still in situ at back, and presumably almost to roof where collapsed. Why did they not just knock the top off the oven and fill it, but appears that they filled the oven deliberately from the entrance and packed it in. Wendy (Matthews) took a micromorph. sample through part of this layer at the W end (sample 2 (2859) so hopefully this will help to interpret this unit.
