Discussion: This seems to be more "owl pellet" deposit, a distinctive thin yellowish crust with phytolith benetah and microfauna in it. To the N it may be rather different, less crysty but still with microfauna. Presumably this bit got left behind last year? Whether it was covered with a thin soil which has been removed in cleaning up this year, or was obscured by the "red textile" is unclear, the latter unlikely. I think, yet I do not understand, why it was left. It conforms exactly to Wendys description of the matrix (verbal).

Having found more microfauna all over the place, some in yellow matrix (which Peter says is not a product of the owls) this could just be another discreet deposit (10/09/98).
