Unit 30504
Category: Layer dug in 2013
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Plaster layer + makeup
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: floor (packing only); Material: plaster; Deposition: layered (wall plaster); Basal Spit: painted
Discussion: This layer is very similar to the one directly above it (u.20634). It is burned in the SW corner, and because of this the plaster layer and the two levels of makeup were removed together. The uppermost layer was a plaster layer faintly overlaid in red paint. The first level of makeup was very similar to the first level of makeup on u.20634, a thin, light grey clay layer. The second layer of makeup was the same consistency/color/texture as the one on u.20634 (loose, yellow-brown, silty), but had many more kinds of inclusions, including small rocks, charcoal, and clumps of clay.
This playster layer seems to be a little different from the one above it (u.20634), but only in terms of the composition of the brown makeup layer. This layer was probably deposited as a routine replastering of the platform F. 3695 in order to allow for its continued use during the occupation of the building.
