Category: Layer dug in 2013
Area: Trench 5
Interpretive Categories: wall - mudbrick and mortar
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: JHB 05-08-2013:
Unit 31125 is one layer of mudbrick and the mortar below it, in the wall F. 3303, the ESE of B. 105. This unit was removed to bring the area down to the same level as other parts of the wall. The area will be cut by a E-W section thru the buttress, wall, and walls of B. 106 to the East. The unit was excavated with a handpick down to the mortar, which was removed by trowel. A buffer was left between it and the plaster on the wall to the East (F. 2424). This buffer was removed using a small, thin metal tool (Stukatöreisen) to preserve the plaster.
TSK 20-08-2013:
Our working-hypothesis when starting the excavation of wall 3303 was that it is independent from buttress F. 5063 and the wall east of it F. 2424. But after the section was finished, it b ecame clear, that it is connected with both of the through morter and mudbrick and therefore contemporaneous. This led us to see conclusion, that the part, where all the features are connected must have been double wall, on which wall F. 2424 was built later on as a thinner wall. The double wall now has the feature number 3380.
