Interpretive Categories: Foundation deposit,Infill

Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: wall/blocking; Material: pise-like; Deposition: homogeneous

Dimensions: 0.73 x 0.71 x 0.26

Discussion: (3134) represents a mixed bricky deposit in the corner between walls [58], [75], [88] and [71]. As it was immediately beneath the first bricks (that were left) of wall [56], it could have been dumped as some sort of foundation material. Its firm bricky composition might have provided a solid foundation for the walls above. However, it could also be the result of an accumulation of dumped material in this corner of standing and remnant walls

Recognition: The bricky brown/mixed/ashy composition of the layer made it distinguished

Definition: Clearly definable from the brick (3128) above

Execution: Pick and trowel

Condition: Slightly moist

Consistency: Fairly firm

Colour: Varies, but main matrix 2.5 Y 5/2 Greyish brown and 2.5 Y 6/4 Light yellowish brown

Texture: Ashy sandy silt

Bedding: Massive

Inclusions: 5% charcoal (flecks, small and medium sized pieces); 2% plaster (flecks and small pieces(; 5 % bone; 2% shell; occasional obsidian; occasional hackberries; occasional lenses of coprolite

Post-depositional Features: Salt encrustation and animal burrowing

Basal Boundary: The basal boundary was surprisingly clear and sharp. Although in section it was hard to define, (3134) peeled off clearly into a far more ashy and plaster rich material (3154) to the west, and onto what appeared to be a brick (3161) to the east. The surface between these was fairly smooth and level.
