Data Category Information: Description: pit

Discussion: shalloow cut with slight circular impression at east of base suggesting a post. However, there was no indication of any post having been situated within the cut. Yet, it is a component part of a concentration of cut features with similar plans and profiles (cuts 32304, 32310, 31708, 22682). The location of this concentration, F7964, in the vicinity of Oven F.7953, its relationship to Platform F.7952 0.60m to the north and a comparison of these relatinships with an established pattern has resulted in an interpretation of 31708 and 22682 of ladder emplacements. Therefore, the spatial and stratigraphic association of 32317 with these features has led to the inclusion of it in this interpretive category despite the lack of evidence for wear, directionality or removal of a post (either by hand or fire), all of which present in 32304. 

Shape: sub-rectangular 

Sides: vertical at south. Steep, >45 degrees, at north where surviving (truncated here by 32310). Vertical at west where surviving, context through which 32317 cut eroded in antiquity (excavated in 2015?). Vertical at east 

Base Break: sharp 

Base: flat but uneven; constitued of rubble formation layer of lower surfaces 

Orientation: east to west
