Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: wall/blocking; Material: plaster; Deposition: layered (wall plaster); Basal Spit: unpainted

Discussion: Several plaster layers excavated from E face of N-S running wall 7708 (around 20-25 layers), continuing onto the northern face of E-W running wall 7995. These are heavily burnt & seem to correspond with a variety of floor layers, but certainly post date 32365. The plaster respects the edges of, but does not continue inside of niche 7999, which differs from the much larger niche on the Northern wall of this platform f.7986, where wall plastering continues inside the feature. This might be because of the comparatively small size of this niche, which would decrease with multiple replasterings, or perhaps the niche had a non-plaster lining made from wood, matting or leather which has since been removed or degraded.

Physically overlies plaster 32305.

Consistency: Firm, friable where burnt

Colour: Light greyish white

Texture: Fine day/ lime plaster

Bedding: layered

Inclusions: Occasional silt (1-2%)

Post-depositional Features: animal and plant activity, burning, ended as left exposed between 2015 & 2016

Basal Boundary: sharp but difficult to follow due to the condition of the plaster(s)
