Dimensions: 1.48 m E-W x 1.4 m N-S, depth c. 0.6 cm (thin)
Discussion: Upper ? floor in mid-north part of building 2. Up to 4 layers of floor visible in cut section, but hard to distinguish during excavation and several layers may have come off, especially SW corner, where the layers dip into the baulk, some sort of depression (pit or edge of structure?
Frags. of oven debris in dip S edge of unit, similar to (2800)/(2295)/(2819) but less frequent, perhaps the far edge of the same event? Ie Roddys assumption that oven debris was beneath floor (3340) seems accurate.
Surface flat, levelled + possibly contaminated.
Recognition: Plaster layers in baulk + cut sections, levelled surface.
Definition: Defined by baulks + cut the the E (post hole).
Execution: Layer by leaf trowel.
Condition: Slightly moist.
Consistency: loose
Colour: 7.5 YR 5/4 brown and 2.5 Y 2.5/1 black, c. 50% of each colour
Texture: silty clay
Bedding: massive
Inclusions: flecks of charcoal c.10%, occasional phytoliths c.5%, rare small bones + shell, flecks of plaster c.10%
Post-depositional Features: salts, trampling, truncated
Basal Boundary: flat/levelled/dipping into S baulk c. 3 cm deep dip/anthropogenic
